Weekend Recap: The O’s Split a Pair

Written by Robert Kerr, Staff Writer

Oakland County FC enjoyed a 5-0 victory in their exhibition matchup against Waza Flo Pro on Friday night.
The professional indoor soccer club from Detroit was ultimately undone by a Detroiter on the night. Former Western International High School standout Dylan Borczak had a standout performance as he was regularly at the thrust of OCFC’s attacking moves. Borczak netted twice, and set up two more Friday night. The young attacker has now scored four goals for Michigan’s supporter owned club.
Kevin Lencioni opened the scoring for the O’s in the 13th minute. Ten minutes later, the Purple and White doubled their lead when Hakeem Sadler scored from the penalty spot. In very next sequence, Dylan Borczak made it three to zero when he finished a silky buildup at the top of the box. In less than thirty minutes, the result of the friendly was decided.

Wingers Mario Morana, and the aforementioned Borczak, had moments of dominance in the second half. The pair combined increasingly well as the game progressed, and the two set up each others second half goals. The first, and OCFC’s fourth, came from a wonderfully shaped cross from Borczak, which was met and finished, by Morana. Three minutes later, Morana launched a patented long throw-in to the head of Borczak, who was unmarked in front of goal. Five goals scored, none conceded, good start to the back-to-back weekend.

Tonight was good because we got to see performances and playing time from some of the guys who haven’t been in the team. We had a few guys subbing in and out of the game as well. Man of the Match

July 14 vs Muskegon Risers:

Oakland County FC ventured out to the shores of lake Michigan, for a UPSL Midwest matchup with the Muskegon Risers. The match was an opportunity for the O’s to even up the season series against the Risers, and a chance to jump above them in the Divisional standings. Saturday’s game also served as OCFC’s final away game of the 2018 season.
Michigan’s supporter-owned team was bolstered by the return of a number of injured players. The OCFC starting lineup saw the return of Robbie Cort and Julian Birge to the midfield, while Nate Tremonti was reinserted to the backline. The Men In Purple’s second top scorer, forward Kaveon Dux, also returned, and was named to the bench.
The first half of the game was all action, with both sides getting in behind the opposing defenses in the opening moments. OCFC put a couple chances over the goal while the Risers forced a save and a desperate defensive clearance. It was Muskegon though, that would make the decisive breakthrough. The Risers netted twice in an eight-minute-span in the first half, which put OCFC into a very difficult position.
Club goal scoring leader Robbie Cort was able to get the team on the board in the 35th minute. Cort notched his seventh goal for the O’s, when he finished off a cross from right back Travis Harrington. OCFC where on top of the game, and piled on the pressure following Cort’s heroics. However, the Risers were saved from an O’s equalizer, by the halftime whistle.
The second half of Saturday’s game was a series of near misses from OCFC. The O’s poured on the pressure as the game progressed. Winger Dylan Borczak and defender Alex Ofeimu had the most notable second half chances, but the equalizer never materialized. Despite putting 15 shots on the Risers goal, the O’s were only able to score once. As time began to dwindle, and OCFC pushed harder and farther up the field for their second goal, Muskegon was able to score their third goal in the games dying moments.
