Oakland County FC Welcomes Mathius Johnson as Assistant Coach for the 2017 Season
RELEASE: Oakland County Football Club has announced the signing of Mathius Johnson as the team’s Assistant Coach for the 2017 season.
Also serving as Marygrove College’s Men’s Soccer Head Coach, Johnson aims to bring his experience and knowledge to the table as the team competes for a playoff birth throughout the 2017 campaign.
“I’ve heard great things about the organization and I know it will be a very talented and hard working group of players on the field representing Oakland County.”
Prior to Marygrove, Johnson enjoyed an extensive ten-year professional career as a player. Johnson’s professional playing career included stops with the Utah Freezz, San Diego Sockers, and most recently as a player-manager with the Detroit Ignition.
In addition to his experience as a player, the Minneapolis, Minn. native has been successful coaching at both the club and high school levels. At the club level, Johnson led the Keliix Intra to a U19 Minnesota State Cup Championship.
This recent signing pairs Johnson with Head Coach Nicolino Morana. The team plans to add two coaches to round out the staff in the coming weeks.
“I have the utmost confidence that Matt will be a supreme addition to the organization. I’m excited that he will be joining the staff and can’t wait to start working with him!” — Head Coach, Nicolino Morana
“Hopefully I can play a part in making it a successful season both on and off the field for ‘Il Viola’!”
